As a decorator by hobby (no laughing) and a graphic designer by trade (slim on the cash) I’m faced with the challenge of creating neat stuff to look at that have 2 things going for them:
1- they don’t cost me an arm and a leg
2- its not from ‘pottery barn’ or fil-in-the-blank lookalike store from which everyone else has the same thing
(ps- i have no beef with pottery barn. i buy their stuff. i simply enjoy variety and uniqueness from many styles and like to make my home my own and not look exactly like a catalog)
So, i refer to my favorite place on earth: Anthropologie. (that’s right, i rip someone else’s idea off!) I merely walk in and out of this store to get neat inspiration to steal use in my own home. i do not shop here. i cant afford it. BUT where this place lacks in affordable clothing, it does make up for in decor that is all basically recycled items. and if i had the funds, id buy every last thing in here. just fyi incase you are looking for something fabulous to get me for christmas.
You get the idea.
ergo: THE PLAN.
of course i couldn’t find the picture i took of the one ‘erin-could-do-this’ installation at the west palm anthro made of paper bags/lunch sacks. who knew you could make anything other than a hand puppet out of a paper bag? whoever is the display designer in this place is: A) on a tight budget &/or B) a friggin genius.
from my fabulously photographic memory, i vaguely remember these bags being twisted in the shapes of flowers, dipped in paint, and then arranged on the wall in a stylish fashion. Much like the last picture you see above. organic, balanced, pleasant.
Lucky me, i had a ton of PAINT left over from the last post about bathrooms.
i think they look flower-ish, dont you?
This one looks like i slaughtered Big Bird. I had these things over the entire drop cloth. i was afraid i’d run out when i was hanging them, so i just did the whole pack…. 100 bags. overkill perhaps?
i filled up this bag
aaaaand this laundry basket…
PS- if anyone wants to try this, be aware that the paint is taking a while to dry. i did dip them directly in the bucket o’ paint, let them drip for a while and all, but this morning they were still a bit sticky. you cant do this in one day. Lucky for me people arent arriving til tomorrow! oh how i plan ahead (not).
I’ll be putting these up tonite. wish me luck. more pics tomorrow and we’ll see how this all turns out.
